The AI Label Mess on Instagram (And Where I Actually Stand)
Instagram has been auto tagging posts as "AI generated" even when a real person made every single part of it. Designers using a basic background removal tool are getting slapped with the label. Captions run through a grammar or SEO tool are getting flagged too. Meanwhile, actual fully AI generated content slips right past broken detection systems.

Using AI as a Tool? No Shame in That Game
I use AI every day to speed up admin work, stay organized, and brainstorm content ideas I wouldn't have landed on alone. That's not cheating, that's working smarter. If you're using an AI tool to:
Clean up a background in a photo
Proofread or tighten a caption
Brainstorm hooks or content ideas
Organize your workflow
You are not creating "AI content." You're using a tool the same way people have always used Canva, Grammarly, or a scheduling app. Getting punished with a label for that is not fair, and creators have every right to be frustrated about it.
Fully AI Generated Content? That's Where I Draw the Line
Here's what actually bothers me: businesses using fully AI generated graphics for their branding and marketing. I don't want a logo, a photo, or a "day in the life" post that was never actually lived. I want your REAL story. Your actual face, and your actual product. That's what builds trust, and that's what I help my clients do every single day.
If a piece of content was built start to finish by AI with no human hand in it, label it. People deserve to know what's real.
The Fix Is Simple: Detect the Actual Thing
My hope is that platforms sharpen their detection so the label only hits content that was actually generated by AI, not content that simply touched an AI tool at any point in the process. Those are two completely different things, and right now the algorithm can't tell the difference.
The Theory Going Around? We See It
Some people think this over labeling is intentional, that flooding everyone with an "AI" tag normalizes AI being everywhere so nobody blinks when it shows up on purpose later. I'm not saying that's confirmed. But if it is the plan, it's not working the way they hoped. We notice. We talk about it. And we keep asking for the real thing.
