An [Imperfect] Content Shoot Day

Can I be real with you for a minute?

Social media is a place where we only post the best parts of our lives: the highlight reel, the happy moments, etc.

But there's a whole side of this job you never get to see, like the nerves you get the night before.

I'm taking you along on a real shoot day from a few weeks ago. This was for a brand new client I'm super excited about. Full transparency though, this was DEFINITELY NOT my best day…

I'm sharing it because this is the reality of what I do. And I have a feeling some of you need to hear it.

The Night Before

Let's start with the night before, because that's really where this day began.

I barely slept.

My anxiety was LOUD that night. It was the kind where your brain decides the middle of the night is the perfect time to run through everything that could go wrong. “Did I pack everything?” “What if the lighting is off?” “What if they don't love it?”

It was our very first shoot together, and I wanted it to be perfect for them.

If you're new here, anxiety is something I've lived with for a long time. Some days it's quieter. Some days it's not. It's a real struggle, but I've never let it stop me from showing up for my clients. That night was no different. It just didn't feel great.

The Morning

Morning came way too fast.

I woke up feeling off. Tired, foggy, and still a little shaky. Not exactly the energy I was hoping for, especially for a first impression.

But past me had my back. The gear was packed and the shot list was ready. I spent the hour drive listening to my favorite playlist to shake off some of that negativity.

Before I walked in, I took one big deep breath.

Here's what I remind myself on days like this: My clients don't need me to feel perfect. They need me to show up prepared. And I did.

On Set: Filming All Day

Once we got going, we filmed their services pretty much all day. Close-ups, process shots, and all those little in between moments that showcase an authentic business.

I really enjoyed getting finished looks and client reactions from this day.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, it hit me.

I was the one directing… and telling people where to stand. When to move. When to try it one more time. Everyone was looking at me for what's next.

And it felt SO surreal. Just a few months ago, I was figuring all of this out from scratch, just like a lot of you. Now this is my actual job. It’s crazy to think about that.

Was I exhausted? Absolutely. Was I feeling my best? Hell NO. But I didn't let that show up in the work. We just took it one shot at a time!

After the Shoot: Batching a Month of Content

Okay, now for my favorite part.

The shoot landed right before a new month, and I wanted their page up and running ASAP.

So I got to batching. Quickly. By the time I was done, I had over a month's worth of content ready for them.

And they loved every single piece. I can't even tell you how good that felt.

Wanna know the cherry on top? That content is performing really well for a brand new page. Watching a new account start to take off never gets old.

One rough day. Over a month of content. A happy client. I'd do it all again.

What I Want You to Take Away

If you're a business owner: one well planned shoot day can keep your page going for a month or more. That's the magic of batching. You get consistent, quality content without having to think about it every single week. (Hey, that's what I'm here for!)

If you're a fellow social media manager: you don't have to feel 100% to do great work. Bad nights happen. Anxiety happens. Give yourself some grace, show up prepared, and trust your skills. You've got this.

And for everyone: the recap reel is never the full story. Behind every polished post is a real person who showed up anyway, even if they didn’t want to.
